I don't think Bernie should sweat being a millionaire. But he should up his charity game from ~2%.
If Bernie was worried about the optics of joining the 1% a really good way to counteract that would be to give a way bigger chunk of his book earnings to NGOs. There've been some good causes the last two years!
I mean he could have even donated to the DSA! Anyway, I don't find it disqualifying, just odd in the way that I suspect goes to his stubborn streak that tends to be a liability for him.

Worth noting that historically lower-income people give a higher percentage of both their income and their time to charities/non-profits. npr.org/templates/stor…
Anyway, candidates, especially the wealthy ones, should be held to a higher standard of giving. And we should hold ourselves to that same standard, being generous with what time and money we can spare.
