My favorite thing to do after conventions is randomly have all the awkward encounters I had over the weekend replay over and over in my head.

This random girl stopped me in the airport and asked to see my ring, to which she replied "Wow someone must love you a lot" to which I replied "That's what he tells me"
A taxi driver in Germany said "I don't speak English", to which I replied "yeah, me either" to try to make him feel better and he just glared at me.

I DO. I SPEAK ENGLISH VERY WELL. I HAVE A COMMUNICATIONS DEGREE.
I didn't order food with a group because I was going to another dinner, and the waiter said "nothing for you?" to which I said something to the effect of "I live on diet coke"

Which isn't WRONG but like IM NOT FUNNY WHY DO I DO THIS
The worst, from Sweden over a year ago STILL haunts me.

A guy got into an elevator and began to speak Swedish (which Swedes arent known for small talk). I got so flustered I just said "SAME." and when the doors opened, I turned around and finger-gunned at him as I backed away.
Anyway... Hopefully y'all at least get a chuckle out of my total awkwardness. If I was awkward to you, I apologize. I mean well, I'm just a serious goober. I promise I like you 😭
OH I HAVE ONE MORE

Going into Germany, passport control asked what business I had in Germany. When I said "A video game convention" she said "YOU play games? What games?" and I (tiredly) replied "EVEN MOBILE GAMERS COUNT OK!"

I DONT PLAY MOBILE GAMES I JUST LOVE INCLUSION

Woke up this morning to a call that the neighbor at my old house is stealing my landscaping 🤔so now I get to drive back and file a police report over rocks 🙃
Follow up: NOW I’m angry. She didn’t take rocks - she took my mermaid statue from my garden! I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS
So the cop went to knock on her door and she had all my stuff in a box in her garage (which she left open). He marched her over and made her put it all back

I DO NOT MIND being tagged with 3-4 other people. Maybe try ASKING people BEFORE hand if they mind or not. Then make your list from there. Be polite. Mass tags should be for something super important that needs to get out quickly anyway. cont

I know folks wanted to talk about #anxiety & #gradschool. I'm going to share some things that only close contacts know bc I think its important to discuss it openly. I've always managed with some anxiety since a young age but grad school & life brought things to a breaking point
Beyond the normal grad school pressures, I found myself leaving an emotionally abusive relationship, learning how to parent alone, and losing my mom, who watched my son while I did field work, to cancer.
I suddenly found myself unable to do the fieldwork upon which my whole identity was built. The impacts from my relationship and the grief of losing my mother also made it really hard to trust myself to make decisions or take actions. My mental health took a nose dive & I froze.

I'm still figuring this out myself, and there's a lot of advice about dealing with anxiety available, so I'm just going to list the things that work best for me. I'll talk about sleep, trying to clear your head, still working during the anxiety and getting help.
1st, tell someone you're struggling. I told my supervisor and I can't imagine trying to hide it from her, but I know some people aren't comfortable with that. Find a colleague you trust and tell them. (The benefit of telling your supervisor is they're responsible for helping.)

Too many journalists more interested in the 'game of politics' & 'sensational statements' of candidates' is why the US currently has Trump destroying their nation and shitting on all their respected "conventions" of Govt.

#Auspol should beware of same here.
This is a serious issue. As the US found, many of the 'conventions of Government' that Trump trashes are not rules, not part of the Constitution, just 'conventions' which all flavour of President had respected.

Riding roughshod over 'conventions' is a slippery slope.
It has taken reporters in the US quite a bit of time to call out the trashing of these 'conventions' by their President, but sadly, damage is now done.

In Australia, we have seen various Governments over the years try to skirt convention.

Quand on fait des attaques de paniques à répétition ou que l'on vit de l'angoisse au jour le jour, on a un Trouble Anxieux. Le Trouble Anxieux n'est PAS une maladie. C'est important de le comprendre.
C'est un trouble du comportement. La différence ? Une maladie se soigne avec des soins. La dépression par exemple demande thérapie et/ou médication. Le trouble comportemental se soigne par une rééducation. C'est comme apprendre à positionner sa langue correctement pour articuler
