Why on earth do Republicans demonize two hardworking, indispensible, valued groups of Americans: teachers and nurses? @FoxNews has demonized public school teachers for years, and now Maureen Walsh has to be told #nursesdontplaycards. I have some
#SaturdayThoughts:

First, $$$. Both teachers and nurses make pretty good livings (for teachers, this is not as true in red states). Both are highly unionized professions. They both require extensive and ongoing education and training (except in red states with private schools lowering standards)...

...$$$ It's no secret that the GOP mission is to destroy public education as we know it. Private profiteers see those millions going to the education pot and want to get their hands on it. Ideologues want to indoctrinate kids with their religion and politics on the public dime...

..$$ and a highly educated professional workforce would just take too big of a chunk out of their profit pie, so...make teachers the bad guys. Badmouth public education Push privatization.

Same with nurses...

Expanding Medicare and Medicaid, allowing all Americans a public option cuts into their profit pie. Plus, private, for-profit companies and hospitals will find it tougher to attract qualified nurses if they don't pay salaries comparable to union wages and benefits...

...So of course the GOP fights for policies and laws that weaken unions all the way to the Supreme Court, and they won. Whom did they defeat? Who makes up the most highly unionized professions in the country?...

...as @KimBiondi points out, it's women, of course. Women who dare to be highly educated, highly trained professionals expecting to be paid what we're worth. So they leave us only one option...

From now until 2020, every teacher, every nurse, hell, every woman in every state who hasn't already become a journalism-junkie avid-activist decides now to vote out these teacher-hating nurse-bashing Republicans from city council to the White House...

...because the only way to stand up for teachers and nurses,
The only way to fight to build great public schools for EVERY kid,
The only way to fight for access to quality healthcare for EVERY American, is to fight GOP greed and #VoteDem2020...

...$$$ #GOPgreed would turn these good jobs into "work for as little as possible in the worst conditions you will put up with" (which is why teachers march in red states).
They would turn hospitals and schools into highly profitable taxdollar collection centers...

..$$$ #GOPgreed would leave us inequitable hospitals and schools, all supported by tax dollars. Kind of like the havoc wreaked on Flint/Detroit/Saginaw public schools after Betsy DeVos pushed funds to unregulated private/charters. We #VoteBlueNoMatterWho for jobs AND conmunities!
