Here's a reminder to my friends (and to everyone else really) that neutrality in times of moral crisis isn't honorable, it's deeply shameful. To be neutral when faced with disastrous evil is to side with evil. Do not afford anyone respect if he says he's "neutral" like that.
We think of "sacrifice" as sacrificing one's time, one's money, one's liberty, one's safety, one's life. But there's another kind of sacrifice we must be aware of: Sacrificing one's social standing, one's reputation, one's social circle for what's right. So few take that path.
You can "refuse to take sides" - but you cannot refuse to take a moral stance. You can "refuse to endorse any side", but you cannot refuse to endorse your values. You can "refuse to stand with either faction" but you cannot refuse to stand with principles.
Above, I mentioned how difficult it is to sacrifice one's social standing - and break with one's social circle - for the sake of what's right. Rest assured that this is the *real* long-term strategy to build a reputation that's worth building: That of being a person of principle.
