Hello! Couples 👥
You’ve heard about #Submission
~Wives submit yourselves to your husbands as you do to the Lord~
...so what does this NOT mean?

#thread
First, it DOESN'T mean women should submit to men. I once heard a man publicly respond to a woman in anger saying "I have your type at home". And I said to him, "you're right Sir, she's female, but that doesn't mean she's the same as your wife.
Scripture only says wives should submit to "their own" husbands...and not to every man. And this submission is in the context of leadership. And the idea here is to establish an effective leadership structure in the home.
Note that nothing is mentioned of the wife’s abilities, talents, or worth; the fact that she submits to her own husband does not imply that she is inferior or less worthy in any way. It is a willful act of obedience to Spriritual authority.
In the context of organisations or the community, scripture says both men and women should submit to one another. And the idea here is to establish effectiveness within constituted authority. Submission to authority cannot be gender dependent.
So demeaning and not respecting female leaders in our organizations and communities because they're female is simply a show of a lack of understanding. And our society have suffered as a result of this inherited discrimination.
Secondly, it DOESN'T mean women should endure domestic violence in the name of God. If a woman dies like that, she has been wasted and families and generations will suffer as a result. #thread
Scripture actually says husbands should be ready to give their lives for their wives as Christ gave His life for the Church and not to kill them because of their presumed weakness.
So I still believe that if a husband consistently violates his wife for any reason whatsoever, she must speak up, seek professional counsel or flee from him for a season until they're both healed and sorted.
