THREAD: I get many people telling me I’m lucky in Tottenham as our CLP is strong left but their CLP is hostile.

Now the UK has seen Nora Mulready, she (and her type) we’re running Tottenham CLP when I joined in 2011.

The left took over in 2012/2013.
You need to be focused, determined and prepared to put in the work to enable Democracy to fix things.

There is no magic spell. It’s infuriating hearing people say “yea but CLP meetings are boring”

You want fun? Go to a Comedy Club. Buy a trampoline.
Read the rulebook. If you cannot be arsed to read the rulebook you don’t deserve to run a CLP.

The party owes you nothing, it’s not a service. It’s peer led, you don’t like the direction you’re being led in - then do something about it to change it.
A lot of members who re/joined in 2015 have it easier as the numbers are there. We had to search a vastly small membership for people.

Prior to the HDV, the fight was to Save Downhills. That joined a lot of people together. Find your thing.
Don’t take positions at CLP unless you’re prepared to do the work.

I’ve met many lefties who have won positions and done sod all with it. What’s the point? You make it harder to retain. You’ll be the ones lefties want to move on.
Imagine my first Labour mtg hearing Nora advocate the merits of profit making schools and trashing the Teaching Union! I thought I was on a prank show.

It motivated not deflated me. These people were controlling the political power of my borough!
Its tough, but get over it. It’s 100 times tougher for people living in desperate poverty - you’re lucky you have the time and means to get involved in politics.

I’ve been subjected to some vile behaviour, doorknocking sessions cancelled as Nora attacked me in the street!
Have I cried because of what Ive faced in this party? Many times and I don’t cry easily.

But then you remember why you do it. And you get on with it.

So yes, I’m in a strong left CLP - but we worked hard to get that and it wasn’t luck!
I’ve been challenged for saying this when I speak at some lefty meetings. It’s ‘harsh’, ‘rude’ and ‘off putting’ to hear this.

I won’t change the truth. You’re either ready or you’re not.
