1. Dear @AOC, Stop With The Moral Porn

You can take up your fight with @KellyannePolls any which way you like, but don't desecrate the memory and tragedy of 9/11 by using a fictitious death-toll number for Hurricane Maria to slander President Trump. That is a shameful canard.
2. The 64 deaths from Hurricane Maria originally reported by Puerto Rico are probably still closer to the truth. The 3,000 number comes from a newly minted academic "model" that attributes all kinds of statistical deaths over a subsequent time period to the hurricane.
3. By this treacherous 'new methodology' being used to compute number of deaths attributable to Hurricane Maria, death toll from 9/11 could run into hundreds of thousands. This is vicious political trickery.
4. Where are the names of the 3,000 people who died from Mara in Puerto Rico? They don't exist because it's a statistical calculation based on something called "excess mortality rate." That's not how death toll from any other disaster, natural or man made, has ever been reported.
5. Tweak the "model parameters" and you can make the death toll from Maria come out to be any number that satisfies a political need. And they actually did. One model says 3,000. Another one says 1,400. It's not hard to tweak the model parameters to make the number 100 or 10,000.
6. Imagine if for some reason, the total number of deaths in an area during the year following a natural disaster were less than during the year before, will we say the disaster actually saved lives? That would be ridiculous. So this is simply a recipe for inflating death-toll.
7. In their zeal to extract political mileage out of everything, the left has actually desecrated the memory of those who lost their lives to the tragedy of Maria. The left has turned real deaths and real suffering into an arbitrary, statistical and politicized abstraction.
8. The 64 deaths that were originally reported were the deaths of people with real names. It's a tragedy of enormous proportions. We need to deal with the real loss of life and the real suffering. We don't need artificial statistical exaggerations to exploit the tragedy.
9. Even to this day, and even with this newfangled statistical arbitrage, the official death toll as per the government of Puerto Rico is 1,400. The only reason @AOC homes in on the deceitful 3,000 number is to draw an unhinged and diabolical parallel to 9/11. That is shameful!
10. We can argue about political differences on policy, but we must condemn this kind of heinous and morally loathsome conflating of a diabolical terrorist attack with a natural disaster. This pretty face encapsulates a morally carcinogenic ideology.
11. BTW, if you think use of a "statistical model" to count deaths was only a Puerto Rico special, you would be wrong. Now that Democrats have 'tasted blood,' so to speak, they want to use it again and again. Senator Kamala Harris put forward national legislation to do just that.
12. "Procedures for counting fatalities" are nothing but the statistical models I wrote about above. This is how the left dresses up their chicanery in pretty garb while preying upon every tragedy to further their own political agenda.
13. More on Puerto Rico and Maria

Don't believe the Democratic rhetoric on how Puerto Rico hasn't been helped adequately by the Trump administration. While reading these 5 tweets from President Trump, keep in mind also that Puerto Ricans pay no federal taxes.
14. To get a further sense of how flimsy this whole rigmarole about the "new math" of counting hurricane Maria deaths is, see this.

The End.
