Kind of says it all that two ultra-wealthy guys decided it is time to do something about NYC public schools only when there is a real effort to integrate the specialized high schools. nytimes.com/2019/04/27/nyr…
Think of all that could be addressed with these millions and with this type of political clout, but they would rather spend their money lobbying legislatures to maintain a system that denied nearly all black and Latino children access to the city's elite public high schools.
Also, it is just plain dishonest when people say changing admissions standards from a single test to one that reward students who have studied hard and gotten good grades for three years of middle school as lowering standards. It's a racial dog whistle no matter who says it. 
Last, that they are making a black minister and civil rights activist the paid face of this campaign is so calculated as one clearly could fight for improvements in k-8 for black and Latino students AND fairer admissions standards to the high schools. But they aren't arguing tht
