I've had boomers ask me personal questions on a FB thread all morning about why my family can't live on one income. Rudeness bordering on, "show us your tax return!" 1/
One particularly rude and presumptuous woman scoured my blog for photos of our home (our 100yo 3B/1BR 1200 sqft house we bought for $75K for our family of 6) and told me it looked pretty nice and have we tried living in a trailer? 2/
Showing them that a couple can not have student debt, have one (paid off) vehicle, and live very frugally and yet not be able to survive on one income in this economy is impossible for them to accept. 3/
But here's the thing. We've done the whole my husband works a million hours to make ends meet and doesn't get to be around doing dad stuff thing. It sucks. 4/
In this economy, one of us can work two jobs (or tons of overtime) or we can both work and have a thriving family life. 5/
I want my kids to have quality time with their dad. I want us to be together as a family and we have ordered our work life to spend as much time together as possible. Our family life would suffer with one parent working insane hours and one not working at all. 6/
So yeah it's a "lifestyle" choice for us to choose for us both to work (him outside the home, me from my laptop) and have time as a family, both homeschooling, both raising our kids. But it's not for a life of luxury. 7/
So I reject the reactionary boomer "solution" to this economy that suggests men just work tons more hours in order to achieve some 1950s fantasy. That's not a solution. That's depriving families of the dads. We can do better than that, folks. 8/8
