The figure of Bharatendu Harishchandra is an interesting counter

Died at 34!
Lived all his life in a traditional city - Varanasi
Yet viewed as a giant in his own time
To be honest I didn't know much about him until recently

I learn from wiki that the title of Bharatendu was conferred on him by a group of scholars in 1880 in Kashi - when he must have been 30 years old

Suggestive of a certain flexibility that we dont associate with India
@blog_supplement has an interesting blogpost that suggests the data from history very much contradicts this popular perception about India's undue deference to age
