We don't know what's really going on, but my best guess is that this is the fault of @ChadBown. 1/

And Trump is probably hearing reports suggesting that he was going to make a weak deal for the sake of having a deal, reports that are influenced by Chad's analysis. So it's Chad's fault 3/
Seriously, it has been clear all along that Trump has no coherent demands, that he was just looking for a deal that made him look good. And this is a self-defeating position if reporters do their homework and point out the hollowness of any proposed deal. 4/
