Let's stop saying Trump is "rich." These tax returns suggest he's always had negative net worth. If so, he's not rich. He's not a billionaire, not a millionaire, not anything. He just LIVES rich – which any of you can do by running up your credit cards. He's not rich. He's broke.
Net worth equals assets minus debt. Most of you have a net worth a little above above zero, or a little below zero. If Trump's net worth is significantly below zero, then every one of you reading this is "richer" than Trump is, no matter how much borrowed money is in his hands.
Let's say your rich friend loans you a house, car, boat, and clothes. That doesn't make you rich. It just means you're living rich, until it gets taken back. If you keep finding a new rich friend to loan you stuff, you could perpetually pull off the false appearance of being rich
If Trump keeps blowing through bank loans, why have banks kept loaning him money? Cohen testified that Trump kept falsifying his assets and financial documents to keep getting more bank loans. Trump's entire life has been one long personal ponzi scheme.
Eventually, every American bank decided to stop loaning Trump money, because he never properly paid any of them bank (bankruptcy etc). That's when he started borrowing money from overseas banks, which leads us to the political situation we're currently in.
