Today @TheGreenParty is setting out our European Election Priorities. After the #Greenwave we have high hopes – and I want to say on here why I believe you should vote Green. 👇👇👇
This election is about picking a side. When you go to the polls in just over 2 weeks time Brexit will be at the forefront of your minds. A vote for the Greens is the best way to stop Brexit. But it’s also a vote which says you don’t need to settle for second best.
We know there are other Remain parties – but behind their pro-EU facade is a very different type of politics. You don’t need to settle for a party whose environment spokesperson supports fracking or whose defence spokesperson is a cheerleader for the Iraq War.
And you don’t need to settle for one whose support of austerity, together with the Tories, sent shockwaves through this country and contributed to this Brexit backlash.
You don’t need to settle at all. With the Greens you get the whole package. So yes of course we’ll strain every sinew to stop this Brexit disaster. But we’ll do so much more.
We’ll be in the European Parliament for the next five years creating policies and a politics that can transform this country, and the rest of the EU. We’ll fight for freedom of movement, because supporting migration, and migrants, is at the heart of our politics.
And we will put forward the most ambitious climate plans possible, including working with colleagues from across the continent for an EU-wide Green New Deal.
So on May 23rd our message is clear. Voting Green is about staying in the EU, but it’s also about transforming this country and this continent for the better and for generations to come.
