The great @jrpjrpjrp already said this but I remain angry about how "replacements for women's free labor" are framed here as "nonessential." On-line shopping and subscription boxes are replacements for the time women used to have to shop for the family. 1/3
Takeout/delivery and restaurants are how you eat when the adults have jobs & the kids are intensively mothered. "Buying lunch" bc nobody has the time to shop for & make a decent meal to take to work. All that's changed is we can now see the considerable costs of these tasks. 2/3
If these expenses bother you, maybe don't shame people, but instead ask hard questions about the expectations of the modern workplace and the multiple jobs and activities that so many people have to juggle in order to just tread water. 3/3
I will also add that this 3-tweet thread contains broad generalizations about trends for women and families which are not nearly as attentive to variations in class, race, immigration, and other factors as they could and should be.
