xRapid builds liquidity, both from the sender market and receiver market. So if it goes from USD - XRP - MXN it builds liquidity both in USD and MXN. So the competing bridge asset (XLM) has to compete in both markets.
So, in other words, it would not be enough for XLM to just target some exotic fiat to try to win that market. The total cost will depend on the spread and order book depth of both markets.
The more liquidity xRapid builds, the harder it will be to compete. First mover advantage is hugely important. If XRP gains billions of volume in a market and XLM has a few million, the software will pick XRP every time, since it’s automatic.
Once you win that market, good luck in trying to gain market share there. Good luck in trying to compete. What do we see now? xRapid by payment providers, building volume. The volume is still very low but where is XLM? XRP builds xRapid volume every day.
What fiat pairs do they target with xRapid? They say exotic pairs. It is the biggest remittance fiat pairs they target. Look at the list. Mexican Peso, Philippine Peso etc. They are opening new corridors soon. I think they will target ALL biggest remittance fiat pairs.
Since xRapid is live but not XLM then XRP gains an advantage each day, building more volume, gaining more advantage. Why do you think the guy from IBM emphasized that IBM World Wire is agnostic and could settle in XRP? They see where this is going.
Do you think IBM cares whether it will be settled in XRP or XLM? Always look at the incentives from each player. As far as I know, IBM doesn’t own any XLM. What they care about is making their customers satisfied.
So now you see XRP building volume in both the biggest remittance fiat pairs AS WELL as the biggest fiat pairs, USD and Euro. Soon with SBIVC, you will have massive advantage in JPY as well. XRP has a huge advantage already in FIAT liquidity over XLM. This will only grow.
So what will XLM have to do? Target corridors between two exotic fiat pairs that no one cares about because of low payment flows? Maybe... likely won’t. XRP has and will have an even bigger advantage in all payments going from or to USD/Euro/JPY.
This is why I believe that XRP in the end will be the only bridge asset used. No reason to have two and when one asset has such a first mover advantage that XRP now has, I don’t think others will be able to catch up.
