South Bound Brook, New Jersey: come for the dead fascists, stay for the pizza (THREAD)
At Saint Andrew’s Ukrainian cemetery, you can’t miss the memorial to the unknown soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), located in the middle of a special section of the cemetery cordoned off for UPA vets.
Pictured left (above), with the pink flowers, is Mykola Lebed’s grave. Apparently he reserved himself a spot next to the memorial he helped plan.
I didn’t realize, Myroslav Prokop is also buried here among the UPA vets, adjacent to his longtime colleague Mykola Lebed.
Yet another Nazi turned CIA collaborator, a veteran of the Nachtigall Battalion, Yuri Lopatinsky, is also buried here, next to Prokop and Lebed. He went on to serve as a CIA spotter for “hot war agents.”
Have yet to identify the other 40+ people buried in the UPA section of the cemetery. As it were, Taras Bulba Borovets, who founded the “1st UPA,” is also buried at St Andrews, but almost in the very back of the cemetery.... 🧐
Dmytro Dontsov, who translated Mein Kampf into Ukrainian and compared its author to Jesus and Joan of Arc, and greatly influenced the ideology of Stepan Bandera and the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, is buried in the front of the cemetery, just behind the church.
Buried elsewhere at St Andrew’s is Pavlo Shandruk, who led not the Galician SS but the “Ukrainian National Army” (+/- a paper tiger created by Alfred Rosenberg’s “Ostministerium in 1945) in which the Galician SS became the First Division of the UNA.
Among other problematic people buried here whose graves I couldn’t find is Petro Dyachenko, a colonel in the WW1-era Ukrainian People’s Army turned Schutzmannschaft (Nazi auxiliary police) officer in Volhynia later named commander of the 2nd division of Shandruk’s Ukr. Nat’l Army
Some more photos from today:
Couldn’t resist the urge — took more of these photos than I care to admit...
Anyway here's a couple photos of the Ukrainian Nazi collaborator, war criminal, and OUN-B ideologue — also Stepan Bandera's deputy and successor — Yaroslav Stetsko, meeting with the 44th Governor of New Jersey, Robert B. Meyner, on July 11, 1958. Alas, the CIA didn't support him.
