Everyone asks "What state's abortion ban is THE MOST EXTREME?!?!" But this question fails to recognize that abortion is an individual thing. When a patient is blocked from accessing abortion, the restriction that blocked them was the "most extreme" for them.
Is there's a 24 hour waiting period, and she can't get a second day off of work, then that's the "most extreme" restriction for her.
If there's a ban on paying for abortion with insurance, as John Kasich enacted, and that's the only way she has to pay for abortion care, then that's the "most extreme" restriction for her.
If the only clinic in her town closed, and she doesn't have a car or gas money to get to the next clinic 75 miles away, then whatever closed that clinic was the "most extreme" restriction for her.
When a couple has a wanted pregnancy that's suffering from complications, and the legislature just banned the medical procedure they would use to terminate, then that's the "most extreme" ban for them.
If she's been raped, and a town doesn't stop protesters from screaming in patient's faces, her PTSD may make it too difficult to walk into the clinic. That town's inaction to pass or enforce an ordinance against harassment is the "most extreme" for her.
All of these examples, and there are a hundred more, are situations where something politicians pass is the "most extreme" abortion ban... but it's not usually measured in weeks of gestation. #EndRant
