I’m now in Alexandria, where @xychelsea Manning is expected to appear in court. She spent 62 days in jail after refusing to answer questions to a grand jury about Julian Assange @wikileaks, and now they’re going to try again after she’s been free for eight days.

It seems the media got their act together a bit and actually showed up. Most networks here today.

Last time there were like a half dozen journalists when @xychelsea was taken away.

Media is eagerly awaiting Chelsea Manning’s arrival, expected in the next 20 minutes.

Hearing is 2pm, and she’s expected to speak to press before going in around 1:20.

I’ll be live-streaming at Facebook.com/n2sreports

In addition to media, @xychelsea’s supporters are out here for her.
Chelsea Manning @xychelsea is expected to arrive any minute, so I’m about to begin my livestream on the @N2Sreports Facebook. Join me there: Facebook.com/n2sreports
JUST NOW: #ChelseaManning has just entered the United States Courthouse in Alexandria.

It is possible she’ll be held in contempt and be arrested today, or she may be called back for a later hearing.

Either way, they intend to ask the same questions and she says she will refuse.
I asked Chelsea Manning why the government is even going ahead with this process knowing that she'll never betray her principles to testify.

She explained that the government's "goal here is really to relitigate the court-martial" for which she already served 7 years.
One reporter asked about the case against Julian Assange. Manning says she's read the indictment and affidavit and concludes that it's a "bananas case."

She adds grand juries are to get indictments, which they already have, so she is unclear why she's being called to testify.
Here is the complete, HD video of @xychelsea’s comments to the press before going into court.

She is still inside.

Chelsea Manning Speaks Out Ahead of New Grand Jury Hearing
BREAKING: Chelsea Manning @xychelsea is going back to jail, source says. US attorney expected to come out and speak to press at 4:10.

After 30 days in jail she’ll be fined $500 per day, and then $1000 per day after 60 days for refusing to testify.
I will be live-streaming again soon at Facebook.com/n2sreports.

I hope to hear from Chelsea’s lawyer as well, but the US attorney is supposed to make a statement in ten minutes.
Chelsea Manning’s attorney speaks out. She expresses her disappointment and says that this term of incarceration will be exactly as coercive as the last one - not at all.

She believes the government is wrong to incarcerate Chelsea for testimony she’ll never give.
The US attorney speaking out against Chelsea Manning started his statement by mentioning that a hearing that occurred at the same courthouse today was naturalization to our “nation of immigrants and nation of laws.”

Then he moved on to Chelsea Manning.
He then went on to claim that “nobody wants Ms Manning out of contempt proceedings more than me.”

He claims that grand jury secrecy in fact defends the rights of suspects since they don’t cause damage to people for whom an indictment is not returned.
The government is adding financial measures to their attempts to coerce #ChelseaManning into testifying.

By my math, if they did this during her previous 62-day detention, she’s have been fined $17,000 by the time she got out.

Here's my HD footage of the full statement by Moira Meltzer-Cohen, Chelsea Manning's attorney.

Here's the full statement U.S. Attorney G. Zachary Terwilliger @USATerwilliger made about jailing Chelsea Manning.
