The principle of the "rule of law" is that the rules apply equally to everyone. It's the same rules when the grand jury investigating Trump's associates compels testimony as the grand jury investigating Assange compels testimony from Chelsea Manning.
If you are saying that the Grand Jury can't jail Chelsea for not testifying, then you'd have to also agree that the Grand Jury couldn't have compelled testimony from Trump's associates.
Yes, I think the investigation into Assange is bad, and Chelsea's resistance to questioning heroic, but at the same time, that's not an argument why the rules shouldn't apply to our side, while at the same time applying to the opposing side.
Maybe the rules are bad and need to be changed, but that has to be explained in terms of our enemies, not our friends, why we can't compel testimony when investigating terrorists, child molesters, mobsters, and bankers.
