PERSONAL THREAD: ON #PTSD AND #GUNS

We've seen a number of suicides among survivors of school shootings. Tragedy compounding tragedy. And I wanted to talk about one of the least covered reverberations of #gunviolence: the pain, fear, and anguish that last long past the shooting.
From the age of ten into my late teens, I lived in (or near) an active war zone in Lebanon. That was 4 decades ago. To this day, I wake up with severe night frights, reliving gun battles and experiencing a visceral fear that can't be expressed in words.
Over the years, the intense emotions have subsided, but knowing how scary PTSD can be, I just want to express compassion for those who are going through it, particularly the children and families who have survived mass shootings.
