.@ARKInvest would like to compare notes with Adam Jonas and his team at Morgan Stanley on their concern about EV demand. The concern should be about gas-powered cars. EVs are growing nicely.
Based on original research (which seems rare on the Street these days), the total cost of ownership (TCO) of a $TSLA’s Model 3 is lower than that of the average gas powered vehicle, as shown in ARK’s Sunday newsletter above.
As the average price of an EV moves toward and drops below that of gas powered cars in the next few years, EV demand growth should transition from strong to explosive.
Increasingly, when #UBER drivers drop me off at the train, they ask about the economics of the #Model3. Demand for the Model 3 extends well beyond the premium sedan market.
I’d be much more concerned about the demand for gas powered cars. I’m puzzled over Adam Jonas’s “overweight” rating on $GM because the #Bolt’s sales are flat year over year and its gas powered car sales are falling. Gas powered car sales seem to have peaked globally.

$Uber’s and $LYFT’s disappointing debut seems to be impacting “innovation” stocks more broadly. Two problems nullify that relationship:
First, $UBER and $LYFT no longer are innovators, as #autonomy will destroy their business models.
Second, given the serious overvaluation in private relative to public equities, many more $IPOs will fail. We see many like for like companies valued in the private markets at 2-15 times those in the public markets as measured on price-to-sales.

That's really terrible news for meeting global climate goals:

#Hydrogen #FCEV vehicles are very unlikely to become any kind of transport solution because they just don't make environmental or economic sense when compared to battery electric vehicles. #BEV
Hydrogen itself is just another fossil fuel as almost all of it is made from natural gas with carbon emissions as a significant byproduct. So the basic premise of the #FCEV is destroyed right there because it's just another fossil fuel car and not #Green at all.
The only other significant means of production is electrolysis which accounts for only 4% of all commercially available hydrogen fuel. It's used for only this tiny amount of production because it's massively inefficient, throwing away up to 75% of the electrical energy input.

You can drive 400 km with a fully charged Tesla. When the weather is not too hot, not too cold.
Just like your cellphone, this autonomy is theoretical and decreases over time. It takes HOURS to recharge.
