THREAD: Labour's general election prospects. A few people, naturally, note Labour's very disappointing local election results and pretty grim polling position re: the EU elections, and conclude it's all going pear-shaped. Well, it's not. Here's why.
As many of us noted a couple of weeks back, who was likely to turn out at the local elections? Hard Brexiteers and hard Remainers. People who are very energised politically. They don't make up the majority of the electorate. Far from it.
Both the local and EU elections are an opportunity for protest: not just against the Tories, but the system itself. Because the system both resulted in Brexit and has yet to deliver Brexit. So it's a plague on both main parties' houses - but the Tories a lot more than Labour.

@RemainerNow - here is my story. Sorry for the #thread however, it's impossible to get this in one tweet. Firstly, and let's be 100% clear, Brexit was never, ever about immigration for me, quite the contrary - I'd like to see our immigration policies opened up...
however ever since an early encounter in my career at the Brussels Chambers of Commerce, I have been fearful of ever-closer union, and who was really behind that specific aspect of EU life. Most notably I recall a presentation from a then ABN Amro executive, seconded to the EU.
Discussing the merits of breaking down country borders, accessing markets for big business with resources to manage increased regulation and info on competition law which ultimately creates monopolies for multinational corporations. And this was pre the tech giants of today....

Been holding off on posting this #Thread regarding the #LocalElection2019 going on in England and Northern Ireland, but the results are fascinating to me here in Scotland for sure. There is a clear #RemainBacklash going on and this is HUGE, shall go into more detail on why.
Clearly, the #LocalElections2019 is one of the biggest elections in history for the Lib Dems and the biggest night for the Green Party, there is been a massive shift towards these two parties over the usual Tories and Labour, but why is that? Clearly, #Brexit is a big part of why
How the Tories and Labour have handled #Brexit is nothing short of embarrassing, both these parties have refused to support a #PeoplesVote and give us a second say on leaving the EU. Yet Lib Dems and Green Party have been consistent since the get-go as remain parties.
