As expected, the Supreme Court temporarily blocked court rulings striking down the GOP's gerrymanders in Michigan & Ohio, since the high court is about to rule on gerrymandering cases in Maryland & North Carolina whose outcomes will affect the chances the MI & OH rulings survive
Here's our breakdown of the recent rulings striking down the GOP's congressional gerrymander in Ohio & the congressional & legislative gerrymanders in Michigan: dailykos.com/story/2019/5/3…

In Michigan, Republicans have won legislative majorities in 3 of the 4 elections since they drew the maps after 2010 despite Democratic candidates winning more votes. Democrats may have won full control of state govt in 2018 without the GOP's gerrymanders docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…
Despite Democrats taking the House majority nationally, Republicans maintained a lopsided 12-4 majority of Ohio's House seats in 2018. With a nonpartisan congressional map like this one instead of the GOP's gerrymander, Dems may have won 3-4 more seats dailykos.com/story/2019/5/3…
However, I'm not optimistic about the chances the partisan Republican majority on the Supreme Court will limit partisan gerrymandering next month. I expect they'll either rule it can't be challenged or at best they'll use a standard of very limited potency dailykos.com/story/2019/3/2…
SCOTUS is far from the only solution to gerrymandering. Reformers can use ballot initiatives, elect or appoint amenable state supreme court majorities, & break single-party grips on state govt to fight gerrymandering at the state level. Congress can also pass the #ForthePeopleAct
