Train up a child in the way that he should go, when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Children are at the best stage of moulding. Anyway you mould them at that developmental stage determine what you'll see of them afterwards.

There is a saying that when the fish is dried, it becomes difficult to bend. Hence, when they are still in their formative years, please do form them well.

Tomorrow is Children's Day and I want to wish every child out there a wonderful celebration.
But I also want we the parents to reflect on what the journey has been so far, how have we fared in the course of this journey?

Be truthful to yourself, what did you score in your assessment and also admit where you have erred and need to make amends.

Whatever u teach them is what the society will benefit from them. Teach them to be uncouth, the society will reap it.

Teach them to be kind, respectful, empathetic, the society will reap it from them soon.
How do we know a parent had done a good job, we check their children.

A few social skills for children that every parent should teach their children.

1. GRATITUDE: Teach your children to show gratitude at all times. Tell them everything in this world is not their right, so, whenever they have anything, be grateful.

Let them know there are things that are privileges, they aren't entitled, so appreciation is key and it starts from home.
When they finish eating, teach them to say 'Thank You', they don't have a slave that cook for them.

Teach them to be appreciative whenever anyone give them anything.

2. RESPECT: Train your children to be respectful, tell them it's importance, tell them what happens when they are disrespectful, tell them there are rewards for being respectful.

If someone is chastising your children outside and say, "... the boy is very rude and disrespectful, but his parent is not like that o", what they are invariably saying is that you failed to put this child right.

3. EMPATHY AND SYMPATHY: Empathy is the feeling that you understand and share another  person's experiences and emotions.
Sympathy is the feeling that you care about and are sorry about  someone else's trouble, grief,  misfortune, etc

A man told the story of his son on Twitter recently. He said the boy was mocking another boy wearing a rubber sandal. He said he bought two rubber sandals for him the following day, one for church, one for school and locked up all his sneakers.

Let's teach these beautiful children to be empathetic and sympathetic, the society needs people like that.

4. PRUDENCE AND DILIGENCE:
Prudence is skill and good  judgment in the use of resources.
Diligence is persevering application.

Every child should understand prudence and diligence, the rewards and the loss of not engaging them.

5. GOOD PUBLIC CONDUCT: You must see to it that your children know how well to conduct themselves in the public space, they should know how to talk, when and what to say per time. They must be sensitive to the topic of discourse etc.

I have met children that have very good demeanor outside, I have seen good carriage and command of admiration and respect from kids. They are being taught, teach your own children also.

However, the major reality of all the above is that children will always look at YOU their parents and replicate what you do.
If they are goodly behaved outside, they've seen you behave very well too. You are their first model.

A woman was seen in the train reading a book and her child sitting on her laps was also reading a book. Then curiously she was asked, "how did you get your child to read instead of playing with smart devices?". She replied, "children don't hear us, they imitate us"

As parents, guardians or parent figures, please let us model right for these children, be a better version of yourself at all times so the children can also be better.
You will reap your labour over them. Amen.
