My next video is a 19-minute crisp discussion on Ram Mohan Roy & the decline of Sanskrit in India.
I also explain that Rashtra comes first & we must transcend regional identities like “Bengali”, “Punjabi”, “Tamilian”, etc.
My video explains that transcending regional identity does not mean denying/ignoring it. But have priorities right - first Yajna, second Rashtra, third Rajya. Regional identity comes after.
As I explain in forthcoming video (tomorrow), I enjoy the Punjabi chola-bhatura & occasionally do bhangra (not yet good at it). But never saw Pakistani-Punjabis as "Punjabi bhai bhai". Never felt we should help them cross border into India. Priority must be Rashtra First

1) People criticize Macaulay for replacing the traditional education with Anglicized education. Should they also know that Roy pioneered that proposal a decade before Macaulay, and wrote to the British asking them to replace Sanskrit with English medium?
2) Should people know that Roy worked as an employee of the East India Company in a senior capacity, helping them rule over his fellow Indians?

RAM MOHAN ROY wrote following letter to British Prime Minister William Pitt asking to replace Sanskrit with Anglicized education in India. This was 12 years before Macaulay's campaign. Roy did many good things also. But what do you think of this action? groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/…
RM Roy PIONEERED the de-Sanskritizing of Indian education by arguing that Sanskrit was anti-intellectual. Macaulay implemented this. Attached excerpt from @sanjeevsanyal book shows he blindly follows RM Roy. I dont want fight with Sanjeev - he is also doing good things.
Let us focus on policy issues: Do you agree with the Roy-Macaulay-Sanyal camp that removing Sanskrit was good for India?

Totally agree. The Bengal of 18th and 19th century was horrible for women. There was Sati and even worse there was disgusting practices of child marriage and polygamy - primarily in so called Kulina Brahmins. Sona Gachhi was no accident.
Reformers like Ram Mohun and Ishwar Chandra made wonderful contributions that cannot be denied even if we disagree with them in bits and pieces. As for Ram Mohun Roy's praise for British, that was a norm till almost 1930s. Why isolate Ram Mohun Roy alone?
The social reform was impossible without British support and hence most intellectuals of 19th and early 20th century have praised British, refused to rebel against British rule and at most demand only Home Rule. Be it Vivekanand, Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai. Do we call all stooges?

Our country India has achieved independence from the British since 1947, but English still plays a big role in our life.

First of all, there is no one, uniform Indian culture. Our country is a mixture of cultures, where each culture has its own language. We have Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada, Mizo, Meitei, Kashmiri and all their dialects.

Many people hail the fact that despite this diversity, we are still United. But then how do people from two cultures who can't speak each other's language communicate? Through English ofcourse. A man from Maharashtra who knows Marathi won't be able to communicate
