Ascension Day (the most neglected holy day on the church calendar in America) is not about Jesus becoming the first astronaut and blasting off to a galaxy far, far away.

Ascension Day is about Jesus ascending (being promoted) to the Oval Office of the Universe. #AscensionDay
If we don’t understand Ascension Day, our political theology will be compromised. We’ll probably think that Jesus has gone off to heaven where he’s hanging out until he can return to earth and actually begin his reign. So in the meantime some version of Caesar is Lord. 🤮

As Jesus told his Apostles on the day of his ascension...

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given unto me.”

Q. How much authority does that leave for all the Caesars—then and now?

A. Nada!

A robust political theology is exactly this: Jesus IS Lord! #AscensionDay

When we think we have to be in control of political power in order to bring about the will of God, we betray Christ in the manner of Caiaphas. When we base our love and respect for other people on shared political opinions, we have confessed, “We have no king but Caesar.” 1/
And when we prioritize national greatness over the truth that Jesus taught us in the Sermon on the Mount, we have washed our hands of Jesus and said, “Crucify him.” But today is the sixth Sunday in Lent and so we still have time to repent. 2/
We have time to change our thinking and confess that truth is found in Jesus Christ, not in the propaganda of Caesar. We have time to renew our mind and realize that only the way of Jesus brings about real lasting change. 3/

I'm not talking about voting, I'm talking about messianic religious claims; e.g. Pat Robertson:

"The Lord’s plan is being put in place for America and those who oppose Trump’s policies are against God’s plan, against the Lord and his anointed."

No! The Lord's anointed is Jesus!

1. The tomb is empty, but how do we know this? The tomb visited by tourists today is almost certainly not the correct tomb, so how do we really know it's empty? How do we know Christ is risen?
2. First, the disciples didn't run to some far away place to preach the resurrection; they did it in the center of Jerusalem. A quick walk out to the tomb to see a dead Jesus, and the disciples and Christianity would have died right there.
3. 2nd, the earliest Jewish arguments against the resurrection claimed the disciples stole the body, admitting the tomb was empty. We see this recorded in Matt. 28:11-15 and in a collection of early Jewish texts called the Toledoth Jesu. Nearly all scholars admit this truth.

No offence to those who are Catholic. Most do NOT know they are not Christian.
Their scriptures have been changes. The 10 commandments have been changed. 2 taken away. 8 split into 10.

 Their Sabbath is on the wrong day. Sunday is NOT the Sabbath.
The Lord workedfor 6 days to create earth and all apoit. He rested on the 7th day.

Northern Ireland is a tipping point for Brexit. Even my more Brextremist family members have started to say "Whoa. Hold on there old chap. We liked this idea but not enough to screw that whole Ireland thing up again".

And that from the least pragmatic Brexiters I know.
Over the last month its become a palpable problem. First the weird technology that the more buffon supporters jumped on, but the older family members frowned at. Then the hoey intervention that the GFA wasnt sustainable and now Boris Borders.

The whole thing scares the horses
Northern Ireland is forcing critical evaluation for the first time by Brexiters with strong opinions.

Europe. Far away, full of bureaucrats. Economy, £ fall too disconnected.

But NI? Anyone willing to piss that away without thinking has lost credibility and become a cultist.
