There are facts we've studied as Historians that many do not know

1)Opkoroko(stock fish) saved many children from death.The protein, iron and oil component cured their Kwashiokor. Red Cross brought them from Norway.

2)The unprepared Biafran army...

gave the Nig. Army a good run at the beginning. Under 3 years, they refined their Oil, built Bombs(Ogbunigwe), amoured vehicles and tanks, air bomber etc.

3)Young Biafran women pretended to be old, wore ragged clothes, rubber ashes, stayed by burning fire so that they may not be raped by the soldiers.
4)Nig. Soldiers entered the University of Nigeria Library and tore books and took them saying 'Na these books..

them dey read, na why them know plenty things' They burnt the books

5)The heat of the war made Igbo people in Rivers to deny being Igbo. They changed their names from for instance 'Umuokoro' to 'Rumuokoro'
Many groups in AkwaIbom, Benue, Cross River...

fought the Igbo people to prove that they were not part of the Secessionists.
6) Awolowo himself was the brain behind the 'Food as a weapon of war' He said 'We should not feed our enemies so they may rise and fight us again'

7) Bioko in Equatorial Guinea is today mostly occupied by Igbo people because they fled there heavily during the war.
8) Gowon acceded to a loose Federation and stronger regions at the Aburi Accord in January 1967, but coming back from Ghana, his advisors...

..dissuaded him, getting the already infuriated and stubborn Ojukwu to declare the State of Biafra in May.

9)After the war.The Association of Igbo Scientists and Inventors tried proposing their inventions to the Nig.Govt but were rejected with'You are Igbo'

10)To solve post-war trauma, they began playing football tournaments. Rangers Club was initiated from this
Zebrudaya Alias 4:30 started his comedy here, cracking them up. Making them smile again.

11) A group of guys formed Youth Community Service Corps...

They helped refurbish ravaged houses and streets in exchange for food. Later they did it voluntarily and many others joined. Youths were sent to different villages to reassociate and rebuild
One Uzodinma Nwala was one of the initiators.
So, in 1972...

He drafted a proposal for the Youth Community Service Corps to have a national colouration, so that Igbo people may be integrated socially to the rest of Nigerians. He wasn't replied to.
But to his uttermost surprise in 1973,a gazette was issued and it read..

'Gen Gowon in his wisdom has established the National Youth Service Corps for the reintegration of all Nigerians..'
Uzodinma was never given credit. Another betrayal!

12) Igbo women still bought wares at borders and sold cigarettes to Nigerian Soldiers at Mami markets, gave their bodies in exchange for food to feed their families.

13)Some Biafran soldiers also raped their women.

14) The war was a hopeless win. Azikiwe and other elders talked to Ojukwu to surrender. He didn't.
Azikiwe left Biafra for peace talks with Gowon.'66(circa)

15)Ojukwu was short tempered and stubborn. But calling for the State of Biafra was...

more than his selfish reason. The happenstances that preceded the war made every Igbo feel unsafe in Nigeria.
His refusal to surrender early enough was an admixture of
Pride-Anger-Frustration-Denial-Hurt-Fear.

16) Lazy and inefficient Igbo ppl use the Biafra story as an excuse for underdevelopment.
They think Biafra is the political solution. They forget that economic power still rules. Igbo States are the direct opposite of what the people truly are today
