Calgary-based 'Friends of Science' claims to be "a group of earth, atmospheric & solar scientists".

In reality it's an artificial 'astroturf' campaign funded by the oil and gas industry, the purpose of which is to dishonestly attempt to discredit climate science & public policy.
An example of the 'science' and rational thought they claim to espouse. 👇

There is no difference between this kind of mindset and that of any alt-right conspiracy theorist wearing a tinfoil hat in a basement.

"Climate scientists & environmentalists have long suspected that @FriendsOScience was a front for fossil fuel companies trying to block government action to reduce carbon pollution, but FoS always declined to reveal their source of funding."

One name that keeps popping up in relation to denialist fronts such as FoS is Tom Harris, a corporate shill who has carved out a successful career spreading misinformation about everything from tobacco to tar sands. The methods are generally the same in each case.

And who funds the Heartland Institute, you might ask?

A link with with the Trump administration? Surely not?

Here's our 'friend of science' Tom Harris again.

How many of these professional climate science denialists can you name?

What do they have in common?

#ClimateBrawl
Obvious interlocks between @FriendsOScience @TomHarrisICSC and @HeartlandInst. The same people, the same links to fossil fuel production, the same denialist agenda, and ultimately the same sources of funding.

"The family that gave more than $15 million to Trump’s 2016 campaign maintained its position as a key funder of climate change denial in 2017, dishing out nearly $5 million to nonprofits and think tanks that peddle misinformation about the global crisis"

"Climate science denial has long been synonymous with Exxon and the Koch Brothers, but now we have a new name on the list: Robert Mercer, the man who swung the election for Trump."

A letter from the Heartland Institute defends Rebekah Mercer's involvement in the Natural History Museum and denies the validity of climate science.

One of the signatories is Albert Jacobs, a co-founder of @FriendsOScience.
