Food for thought for Washington policymakers regarding a U turn in Mexican relations with the US. In a new poll conducted by Mexico City newspaper @ElFinanciero_Mx over this past weekend, 54% of those polled do not support #Mexico bending the knee to Trump’s ultimatum... 1/3
..regarding Central American #migration. 57% want #Mexico to retaliate with tariffs and 59% think Mexico should walk away from the trade relationship with the US and seek other partners like China. Only 16% of those polled have a favorable view of Mexico-US ties. 2/3
Regardless of how this story ends, Trump could scupper US-Mexico relations and lose #Mexico as a strategic partner and ally. Here’s the poll published today (in Spa)

A multi-tweet thread on Potus' Oval Office message: 1) Saying there is a national security crisis on the border does a huge disservice to how the US & #Mexico have worked together since 9/11 to ensure our border is not used by terrorists to undermine our common security. 1/7
2) Per Customs and Border Protection data: CBP encountered only 6 #immigrants at Ports of Entry along the US-MEX border in the first half of FY2018 whose names were on a federal government list of known or suspected terrorists. 2/7
3) Overall, 41 people on the Terrorist Screening Database were encountered at the border with #Mexico from October 1, 2017, to March 31, 2018, BUT 35 of them were U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. Six were classified as non-U.S. persons. 3/7

Some incredibly good news for the MAGA movement. @POTUS @realDonaldTrump has nominated lawyer Christopher Landau to be the next United States Ambassador to Mexico, replacing former AT&T executive Ed Whitacre who had been the previous candidate. This is good news because
Ed Whitacre is, and has been a "Mexican-deep state" favorite for years on the U.S. side. This was bothering me a lot as I saw Whitacre's name being suggested as the next Ambassador to Mexico -- I hadn't wanted to mention it or risk criticism from my new conservative friends.
I am quite pleased to see @realDonaldTrump's administration figured it out before Whitacre was nominated. If you look back at news releases you'll see the press was reporting Ed Whitacre as the "preferred" pick for Ambassador of Mexico which is spooky, another #deepstate clue.

Initial reports that an @Aeromexico flight may have crashed in the state of Durango in #Mexico.
The flight with ~80 passengers on board was bound for Mexico City, according to one report.
The passenger jet is reported to have crashed five minutes after takeoff from Durango.
