this tweet isnt endorsing china, but it vs the US is a perfect example of male + female authoritarianism: in china the government basically says if you fall out of line youll get disappeared whereas in the US if you fail to be "be nice" mobilized randos will try to ruin your life
its actually way less dystopian to imagine a government bureaucrat stamping a paper and declaring someone subversive rather than an organized network of ostensibly normal people deciding that its their job and duty to police who does or doesnt get to say what they think openly
in a male authoritarian system youre punished for breaking the rules. this is pretty cut and dry. in a female authoritarian system youre punished for failing to do your duties with sufficient enthusiasm or with the correct motivation and intention.
in a male authoritarian system you know youre being oppressed and you just deal with it. a female authoritarian system ends up creating a situation where youre fighting with society like shes ur girlfriend, "its not what you said but how you said it". its great and i love it ofc.
u can also see this in the social pressures it creates. in china the governments like "look just dont make political art, okay?". in the US if ur artist statement was "my art has nothing to do with politics" youd never get a "big break" in americas major art circles. theyd hate u
i imagine the average person in china wakes up and says "well, the governments gonna do what it wants no matter what i say". i wouldnt trade places with them but i envy this aspect of it, sometimes, like when im tripping over the corpses of relationships ruined by politics
hey at least we dont have an autocratic government that just does whatever it wants tho haha imagine
