@JamesPanero The "mile", as of 150 years ago, had no global definition. The below chart from a German 1848 textbook shows how there was different definitions of the mile all over the world.
@JamesPanero In 1834 the definition of an English mile was lost because the Houses of Parliament burned down, including the actual yardstick that yards were measured from. They made two new sticks, and gave one of them to America.
@JamesPanero Nowadays the definition of a "mile" is actually metric. Since 1959, a "mile" has been exactly 1.609344km. A metric measurement.
@JamesPanero James says having 12 inches in a foot and 12 hours in a day is better than tens, because 12 is divisible by 1,2,3,4 and 6 whereas 10 is only divisible by 1,2 and 5. Good point! Except we use decimal counting everywhere else on this planet!
If you love base 12 so much then start using it! I'll help you count.

Actually, it's probably easier for you to give up your silly old system and switch to metric rather than teaching your entire population how to divide 1Ɛⵒ by ⵒƐ.

Compare how long it takes you to answer these questions:

How many centimeters are there in 17 and a half meters?

How many inches are there in 17 and a half feet?
Also, you know what the freedom heroes in America always measure in millimeters? The diameter of bullets.
I have been informed that they still measure some of their bullets in inches, which blunts my closing argument somewhat. But they're using decimal divisions of inches, rather than fractions of inches.
