@HonorAndDaring Bill Hilf, CEO of Vulcan Inc. Govt contracting for the border upkeep industry.
@HonorAndDaring That one's too simple though. Let me get a better example
@HonorAndDaring Dirk Van de Put, CEO of Mondelez International Inc. Maker of Oreos. They moved to Mexico to cut labor costs. This is a combination of NAFTA (which let them do that), US foreign military policy (which backs up the economic treaty w/force), and the Border Wall.
@HonorAndDaring Gregory J Hayes. CEO of UTC (United Technologies Corporation) also benefitted similarly when Carrier steelworking moved to Mexico.
@HonorAndDaring "CoreCivic, Inc. [CEO is Damon T Hininger] and GEO Group, Inc. [CEO: George Zoley]—which collectively manage more than half of private prison contracts in the country (including immigration and nonimmigration detention)—earned combined revenue exceeding $4 billion in FY 2017."
@HonorAndDaring "They have spent millions of dollars on lobbying and campaign contributions, seeking to sway the political process toward detention-focused policies that favor their interests—a tactic that appears to be paying off in the Trump era."
@HonorAndDaring ICE is a $6 billion agency that contracts with businesses such as Dell, Amazon, Comcast, etc
@HonorAndDaring So in summary, you got the people who build the wall, the people who police the immigrants, and the people who benefit from the pool of cheap labor which you've created via the border.
@HonorAndDaring And the military industrial complex which is protected from consequences. With ever stronger border security, we can ravage the Global South and not have to worry about their poor and displaced moving north.
@HonorAndDaring The companies can lobby for seasonal work permits and the use of undocumneted labor which allow them to get cheap labor without any ability to organize because the workers live under the threat of deporation
@HonorAndDaring And of course, you'll have virtue signaling companies talk about reforming border policy and caring for migrants and calling Drumpf a big orange meanie, but that doesn't mean Capital has some deep investment with freedom of movement.
@HonorAndDaring All the political used by libs and conservatives on wall rhetoric serves to distract workers from solidarity both globally AND locally because these debates are racially charged. So it gives white workers a sense of division from their class allies who aren't white
@HonorAndDaring The biggest question for the argument that Open Borders is really what Capital wants is: if this is true, why has America, a capitalist nation through and through, made constant use of strict immigrant controls through all its history
@HonorAndDaring And why, in the neoliberal era, have both Republicans and Democrats made decades of increasing bipartisan legislation to support the militarization of the US-Mexico border. "Deporter in Chief" Obama feigning outrage at Trump's zero-tolerance ICE is hypocrisy for political points
