Even Mark Francois would abandon Brexit.

Imagine a general election. Tories and Labour both split right through the middle, losing millions of votes to Lib Dems and Brexit in different proportions.
Nobody will win a majority.

So the Tories know they'd lose an election with the state they're in, what do they do?

They start off in a minority, so they need the DUP, and that goes for whoever wins the leadership. That means no withdrawal agreement.

Europe won't re-open the withdrawal agreement. There's a new Commission coming in, and they don't want to deal with this all over again, so it's take it or leave it.
And parliament has already refused it.

No withdrawal agreement, and no renegotiation.

If you leave now, you'll have to leave without an agreement. And if you don't want that, you'll have to stay.
There are your choices, and one of those things will happen.

Parliament can't solve it now. It would need the kind of huge personality - and we know what we mean, one of the big personalities, Blair, Thatcher, Churchill, regardless of their politics - a big personality to get it through, and we know perfectly well there isn't one.

The only way it can end is in a referendum.

Or if parliament refuses to accept a referendum, a general election where we all vote for the party that offers a referendum.

The new Tory leader chooses remain and abandons the Brexiteers. Safe from a leadership challenge for another year. Invite Labour remainers and opposition parties to approve a Queen's speech with a second referendum in it.
