Grossly ridiculous standard mantra that is unfounded and inexcusable for a publication focusing on education: "Most teacher prep programs don’t train teachers on the science of"
As a classroom teacher for 18 years before being a teacher educator for an on-going 17+ now, my candidates share with me two things that are absent in this false narrative 1/x
Candidates once in the field will say "I wish we had covered x" and then I show them that we in fact covered x. Methods course work is typically less impactful because it is HUGE and lack context until AFTER you teach 2/x
Candidates tell me "I cannot implement anything you taught us because of school mandates, standards, or adopted programs" 3/x
The harsh truth is that in an era of high-stakes accountability that deprofessionalizes teachers, removes their autonomy, what pre-service teachers learn, or don't, is irrelevant 4/4
