#JhelumFables , a 5 day visual storytelling workshop which I am conducting with youth in #Kashmir kicked off today. There couldn't have been a better classroom than the picturesque houseboat ROOTS situated on river Jhelum.

P.S: The best way to spend holidays in company of ✏️📸
#JHELUMFABLES
On day two of the visual storytelling workshop I interacted with each participant. We did small excercises to enhance imagination. Later they chose quaint corners of Roots houseboat situated on river #Jhelum & scribbled stories in company of wood & water. #Kashmir
Light experiments inside classroom on day 3 of #JhelumFables
A chair placed on the wooden Verandah of the houseboat facing west became a prop for portrait shooting- as participants tried side lighting & back lighting before venturing out on the river banks with their camera & pen
As you wake up to Vyeth (Jhelum), a poem surrounds you.

"Evening by the river
Hues in the window,
Some dissolve in Jhelum ripples"

We had a thoughtful & a beautiful concluding day of #JhelumFables , an immersive visual storytelling workshop The stories/visuals captured by the participant is an Ode to river Jhelum (Vyeth). The work reflects the bond they have developed with the river in last 5 days #Kashmir
A chair & table on a houseboat rooftop where pigeons are eating the grains, women praying inside the room, walkers promenading the bund, silhouettes of shikaras, thoughtful portraits, setting sun, moonrise were articulated by participants as strong visual grammar #JhelumFables
Our young storytellers who participated in a five day workshop chose to write #JhelumFables in calligraphy style for the display board. We wish each one of them powerful imaginations and creativite success to pursue their passions strongly in near future. #Kashmir #art #artist
An immersive piece on #JhelumFables which explains the methodology, padagogy, tools, medium and the work of participants produced during the 5 day visual storytelling workshop in #Kashmir

Thank you @rayan_naqash for bringing out the soul of #JhelumFables

A poem 'Winged Companions of #Jhelum' by Adam:

"Parched over roofs of houseboats
Are these winged companions of Jhelum
Who merrily fly above
But with Jhelum" #Kashmir

Because I strongly believe that through the tough times in which we live, ART has the power to pull us away from CONFLICT.

Would like to conclude the thread just like we concluded #JhelumFables workshop I recite one of my favourite verses by poet Aga Shahid Ali

"When I return , the colours won't be so brilliant , the Jhelum's waters so clean, So ultramarine .
My love so over exposed " #Kashmir
