So which is it? Is manufacturing so far lost in the USA you can't find sources domestically and have to import or are there 1000's of manufacturing companies in the USA?

Hmmm that's the point. Ending the business model of importing cheap goods that are being dumped into the USA below market price hurting others.

In other words, Trump's plan is working has intended. The tariffs are changing business models, causing some price increases in supply chains forcing companies to start sourcing from American companies.
