Hope everyone is having a great Sunday! It's time to read some more Ward. I've got another two chapters in Arc 14 to cover today. First up. 14.10!
When we last left our heroes: Victoria grew a new thumbnail really fast thanks to Amy just being the absolute worst. Let's so how she gets out of this one.
Yeah, ok. Sure.
It's almost as if she still doesn't get it. Because "getting it" would mean facing and taking responsibility for the thing she did (and importantly IS STILL DOING)
Aww, yiss. This might not be healthy in the long run, but this gonna be fuuuuuun.
Oh, ok then. We're right back to Scott being extremely angry. Here we go.

HOW DARE
I love all of this, but the highlighted part especially.
I love this because we've already mentioned just how often Victoria sounds Carol-y.

That's not a knock on Vicky, btw. It's just that these moments remind Victoria of the connection she has with Amy.
DOT!
God, Victoria has had a ROUGH month.
I really like this. Wildbow is using some of Amy's closest..."people" as a way of framing her central issue: Her obsession with Victoria is preventing any meaningful change in her.
I'm so inherently fascinated by Dot WHO IS ROCKING THIS OUTFIT. She's inherently loyal to Amy, who the text has spent the last few chapters emphasizing her "Worst girl" qualities, but the book also continues to make us love the little lady.
Gosh, do I love this. From Dot's perspective, it's so inherently logical. You have the power to fix everything.

..do it.
Just gotta, you know, abandon your humanity first.
We've talked about how getting better, recovery, rehabilitation, "fixing it" is such a huge theme of this story. What Amy's presence makes clear is it's not just about getting better. It's how you choose to do it.
Ooooo, good strategy Vicky. Let's see how this plays out.
How Dot is being used here is nothing short of brilliant. There's a childish amorality to the goblin, so using her to reflect on Amy's deeds is just brilliant. Great idea, Victoria. Great idea, Wildbow
Oh, Amy....
Oh it's not a "coloring outside the lines thing"

Then it's FINE. You're making side-deals with people and fucking them up and its FINE

It's HANDLED

Your 👏 excuses👏don't 👏 mean 👏 shit 👏 if 👏 you 👏 keep👏 making 👏the 👏same 👏mistakes.
Perfect.
I'm trying hard not to let my extreme anger and disappointment towards Amy color every interaction, but this appeal to Victoria's hero side can fuck right off.

We are pausing the DragAmyFest 2019 to talk about other things for a moment.

We're still a little nebulous on the 'why' of Teacher's plans, but I love that we're really starting to get the how starkly defined. It's terrifying. Also the echo of the "cracks" and breaking. Love.
DRAGAMYFEST 2019 IS BACK ON
In all seriousness, I love that Amy is still human. The power she was cursed with is an unimaginable burden, and the fuckery wants her to mess up.
What I love about all of this is that Wildbow frontloads with the most disgusting parts of Amy. He wants us all to understand this core truth. What Amy did is disgusting and monsterous...
Now, with that unquestionable understanding, we can, through the magic of storytelling, look at the hows and the whys of what made her this way.
YES. YES. Thank you book for stating this so directly. You don't buy forgiveness. You don't demand forgiveness. It isn't yours to earn or request.

You apologize. You work to change. And then you accept the choices of the people who you hurt.
omg.
YIKES AMY.
Oh, I'm sorry Amy. Did this not go the way you thought it would?
Attagirl. I knew Sveta wouldn't just buy into the bullshit.
Not sure if we're setting up "What Amy did to Victoria" as a slow play, or she just didn't do anything besides the hand heal.

Part of me says Amy doing something to her would go against her narrative, so she probably wouldn't. Part of me thinks she's capable of anything...
Well, fuck. As if this day wasn't bad enough.

Good times.
What a chapter. Despite everything I absolutely adore Amy as a character. What she represents in this story continues to fascinate me.
