If Brexit was EVER really about giving power to the people, we wouldn't even be thinking about letting a Prime Minister who was chosen by the textbook "political elite" (Tory MPs) force a No-Deal, when the majority of the PEOPLE voted for parties whose manifestos opposed No-Deal.
For too long we've been democratically shy. Feeling like we shouldn't really be speaking out because of the 2016 referendum result.
Brexit was totally undefined in 2016. We've only had two chances to rule out specific versions of it, and the MAJORITY of the UK has spoken TWICE!
So a No-Deal Brexit isn't for the people: we chose parties who said they wouldn't do it. So if the politicians want to drag us out with No Deal, they can no longer hide behind the idea that it's the "will of the people", because they'd be defying it.

Both my mate & I had the same reaction reading this: Mainly just confusion.

It's like he just pressed the *insert generic racist comment* button just to take it over the line & make sure there was no doubt.
We were less "how could you say that!?😡" and more "But... why, dude?😕"
I wasn't offended by the comment.
I was offended by the fact that this was the communications director of the organisation set up by the chairman of the Brexit Party, which we've all just accepted as the "pure" and "Non-racist" face of Brexit.

Perceiving people in a ethnic groups as visually similar doesn't make you racist.
It's due to a lack of exposure. If you only see one race growing up, your brain learns to differentiate between their faces better.
But actually saying they look alike shows you're not self-aware.

The narrative that the EU is punishing us is dangerous.
If No-Deal causes food/medical shortages and people don't see that it's a consequence of what WE voted for, they'll see it as a deliberate act of EU aggression costing of British lives.
There's no limit to where that leads.
After 3,600 deaths during the Troubles, the UK and Ireland signed the Good Friday Agreement EXPLICITLY as EU members. Then WE chose to stop being EU members!
The head of police in Northern Ireland said No-Deal Brexit is a clear security risk.
Who do we blame? Ireland, of course!
When we triggered article 50, we specifically said we'd be leaving the EURATOM programme which allows us to safely transport radioactive cancer treatments across Europe.
But who will we blame when cancer patients start dying?
The EU, of course!!

Boris Johnson is not going to present a deal that protects UK Jobs ESPECIALLY in the Labour heartlands some of these MPs claim to represent. And even if he did, most Brexit voters wouldn't like it.
So all these MPs are doing is facilitating No-Deal.

Tldr: the tiller of SS Britannia seems stuck fast, and the No Deal rapids lie dead ahead....is there anything that will blow the ship to the safety of the shore? /1
There are lots of murmurs round Westminster that MPs now want to back the deal - this kind of stuff noted in @Jack_Blanchard_ playbook. /2
@Jack_Blanchard_ But dig a little deeper, and ask people in Commons/Lords if acceptance of a deal requires Cox/May to win changes to the backstop - a time-limit, an exit mechanism - they say 'oh yes, of course'... /3

MPs can often be heard saying "my constituents didn't vote to be poorer" which is code for "I think people in my constituency were conned by a red bus but as a superior intellect I will save the poor wretches from their foolishness". Then they wonder why they're despised

As it happens people make choices all the time that are not in their immediate financial interests. Plenty people give up high paying jobs for less stress or for a better work/life balance. Plenty of wealthy lefties vote for socialists and say they're ok paying more tax.
Some people just have different priorities and different values. And that's allowed if you're a well to do leftie - but not if you're from Sunderland or Rotherham - as though plebs simply aren't capable of thinking in those terms and should be second guessed by their betters.

2015: EU a largely non-salient issue: small-ish strongly pro/anti camps. Wider ’rationally ignorant’ camps that were ‘relaxed’ / ‘instinctively suspicious’.
2016-8: latter camps reduced somewhat as more people enter ‘strongly pro EU’ [1/7]
For many on both sides of the ‘rationally ignorant’ camp “respect the referendum” seems to be more important than “leave the EU”.

One thing I don’t detect much of, tho, is a growing number of people in that camp who are strongly anti-EU on principle. [2/7]
Though there is some resentment of the EU’s “anti-British” negotiating stance, but that’s it. Some of the Leave-voting mild preference people seem to have switched to “leaving is a mistake” (often “too much trouble”). [3/7]
