This can't be the same Singapore that gets 97% of its electricity from fossil fuels
As Richard says, Singapore's nearly 100% gas energy mix is probably the only one that makes sense for a tiny dense island state with poor insolation, little territorial water and tricky relations with its neighbour...
But London, Paris, Copenhagen, Sao Paulo, and probably Houston are all "greener" if you're talking power sector emissions.

Singapore may be a bit better on the transport fuel front, but bear in mind a key part of the economy is one of the world's biggest oil refineries.
3rd biggest carbon footprint after the U.S. and Luxembourg but sure, some (very pretty) vines on balconies make it one of the world's greenest cities

Weird how the odds on Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren improve so much when people see them speak rather than only hearing about them through the filter of horserace narratives.

Trying to work out if there's some common factor here not shared by Biden/Sanders/Beto? 🤔
They both show a lot more variation in their clothing choices than the suits/jeans/shirts uniform of the other candidates. Maybe that's it?
Somewhat higher-pitched voices too. Maybe that's connected to this somehow.

The very idea of negative-yield debt feels a bit Through-The-Looking-Glass. You're supposed to *earn* money from lending cash, not *spend* money for the privilege of doing so.

And yet from zero five years ago, negative-yield debt now accounts for almost 40% of government bonds:
The value has risen particularly fast in the past month -- roughly $2 trillion, of which $1 trillion has happened since the start of last week.

I wish I could say the death of Alan Kurdi caused European attitudes and policies to become more welcoming to refugees, but I'm not sure that it did.
Of course it's an impossible hypothetical. Maybe things would have been *even worse* without that photo.

But to the extent that policies have changed since, many have grown tougher (Germany's were already in place at the time):

Here in Australia then-Prime Minister Tony Abbott -- really! -- announced a special Syrian refugee program which was pretty clearly in response to the photo. I think it influenced the Canadian election, too. But in Europe ... not so much.

Pakistan based terrorists or Jaish-e-Muhammad (Army of Muhammad) attack a convoy of Indian paramilitary. In the attack and subsequent actions, 50 soldiers are killed.
In retaliation, India scraps off MFN status. All cross border trade comes to an abrupt halt. Pakistan sees it as stopping them from eating tomatoes. Jang-e-Tamatar starts.
Pakistan is offended and sends additional Forces to Indian border. The aim of Invasion is to capture some tomatoes and take them back home.

1. There are 7 billion people on the planet. 1.3 billion have no electricity; most of these will die an early death because of it. In order to give all 7 billion the same access to energy Americans enjoy, we must quadruple our global output.
2. This means we need cheap, plentiful, dependable, and scalable energy. Wind, solar, and biofuels are none of these things. The only fuel source that meets all 4 criteria is fossil fuels.
3. By any metric you like, air pollution, availabilty of clean drinking water, economic development, longevity, or quality of life, as we have increased our use of fossil fuels, these metrics have all improved.

1 - To cut #energy consumption
2 - To turn away from #fossilfuels
3 - To diversify its #energy mix

The overall target of France's strategy for #energy and #climate is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through cutting GHG emissions down significantly and also increasing carbon sinks
France wants to cut #CO2 emissions down to 227 Mt in 10 years by cutting final #energy consumption 14% and primary #energy from #fossilfuels by 35%. Also, increasing #renewable heating and doubling the #electricity from renewables. Note: transport emissions vanish by 2050.

Global electricity access is rising, which is improving the lives of millions. But this means our decarbonisation challenge is even greater, since we not only have to replace our entire fossil fuel infrastructure, but probably double it to meet rising global energy demand. #IPCC
The question is where will this energy to come from? A: Right now, mainly from #coal. #IPCC
