A thread for you #mojo enthusiasts walking you through my rollout flow when it comes to filing a news story for all platforms using only an iPhone and iPad. This follows a mobile journalism story I did recently on mango season arriving in Calgary's South Asian community.
In the spirit of digital first, fist comes the web story written on iPad into Polopoly featuring photos shot on my iPhone: cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…
Then comes the edited text-on-video piece for social media (Facebook), using video gathered on my iPhone along with music and text:
At the same time as the web and social versions are published, my radio stories air. Usually one voicer/voice piece and one audio clip. This is the voice piece, edited on iPhone using Ferrite and taking the audio from my video interviews. Listen here: soundcloud.com/user-68893579/…
I also file a radio clip version you can listen to here: soundcloud.com/user-68893579/…
Then later that day the TV version of the story airs on @CBCCalgary all shot and edited on Iphone using LumaFusion @LumaTouch and shot on Filmic Pro @FiLMiCPro You can watch here:
Then, finally, sometimes I produce a full and longer version of the story for radio current affairs using all the material gathered on iPhone. This time it's a talk-tape/two-way with our morning show @CBCEyeopener which you can listen to here: soundcloud.com/user-68893579/…
And that's what filing for multiple platforms as a #mojo looks like for me. For this story it involved six treatments across all platforms, all gathered using just an iPhone. And yes, the mangoes tasted amazing!
One more thing: I don’t set foot in the newsroom to do any of this work. I spend all my time out in the community working remotely from community spaces. It started as a project I came up with called ROAM (Reporter Out And Mobile) focusing on using #mojo in under-reported areas.
