Thanks for the acknowledgment. That you may not agree w/a reason, or think a better way to key data is necsssary, is irrelevant under the Chief Justice’s opinion. It’s extremely deferential to the Executive Branch,and a well crafted Executive Order will moot the previous record.
With such an Executive Order, I believe the Chief Justice (and perhaps others) will simply agree with the four who already thought question valid and uphold question under Constitution, Census Act and APA in a short opinion. But we won’t hav to guess for long.
As for new reasons being “contrived,” I think you miss the obvious intent of the Chief Justice’s opinion: to surface true and reasonable reasons for the questions, of which there are many as I’ve described in past two @washingtonpost columns, and for @SCOTUS to exit this field.
