I think it would be really cool to live in a town like Los Alamos, which has for generations been dedicated to loads of clever people figuring stuff out. Even the fireworks and houses have an “eclectic physicist” flair. Tons of multigenerational scientists / engineers, too.
(Someone at the lecture today told me the downside is a lack of *ordinary* people and normal stuff to do, which I definitely get!)
I love that old Simpson’s episode where Lisa has to decide whether to be challenged daily in a magnet school surrounded by brilliant minds, or be a big fish in a small pond forever. It is a conundrum, eh?
Anyway, it’s fun to be around people who get my, “that one time my dad built a laser” and “I was taken to see a supercomputer at age 10” stories.
