This is good policy, and it's also smart strategically. Anti-immigrant hate is the heart of Trumpism, and we know Trump is going to make 2020 about immigration.
If we want to win in 2020, the Dem candidate needs a clear, values-driven alternative to Trump's xenophobia. That's what Warren has just put out.

By @IndivisibleTeam's count, 37 of the 97 members of the House Progressive Caucus aren't yet calling for impeachment. These Reps are mostly in safe Dem districts, but they're sitting on the sidelines. If they don't get in game, Pelosi will never move.
If every one of them came out in favor of impeachment, that would bring the total to about 130 - far more than half of the Democratic Caucus. But while these safe Dems stay on the sidelines, other more vulnerable Dems are sticking their necks out on this.
So if one of these is your Rep - your job is to get them on the record calling for impeachment proceedings. If you need help, check out @IndivisibleTeam's resource: impeach.indivisible.org.

If you don't like that, here's some good news: Members of Congress are back home for July 4th recess now. And we've found all the public events of those members who voted for Trump's border bill:
The next big legislative fight will be over how much to fund Trump's deportation machine. Democratic leadership - Pelosi and Schumer- could oppose new funding, but so far they haven't. If you'd like them to not give a blank check to Trump again, let your Rep & Senators know.

Although there are distinctions between those positions, they may largely be without difference. /1
8 USC 1325 makes it a criminal misdemeanor to enter the country without authorization. It's been the law for 90 years but was rarely used until the final years of the George W. Bush administration. /2
This chart from @TRACReports shows the spike in ALL #immigration prosecutions (not just 1325) in 2008, followed by high prosecution numbers during the early Obama years and a sustained drop late in 2014 that carried through until a sharp increase under Trump. /3

For those who only read the clickbait @Guardian heaadline on Thanksgiving and ran with it, a thread 📌 from @HillaryClinton on her #Immigration stance.

That stance was attacked in 2016 as far too broadly inclusive by both Sanders & Trump. (That is still archived online.)
I have been quite clear over the years that I support open borders, by which I mean blanket asylum and fair entry to the US (and Europe).
As a lifelong Socialist raised by Socialist Civil Rights worker parents, I believe we can afford to give succor to desperate people AND MUST.
I fully understand that people fear #immigration, but every American who is not Indigenous or descended from slaves is immigrant stock. The true fear in the US about immigration is about race. Pretending otherwise is the problem. Addressing American #racism must be a prioritized.
