So, the good news is I got some pseudoephedrine. It wasn't so much that I felt super awesome enough to go to a pharmacy and sign out for it, but we had pre-existing tickets for Spider-man so I had to go out anyway.
The bad news is that when I have no built-up tolerance to pseudo, I can't sleep with it in my system. I love the little kick of Wakefulness it gives otherwise. But it completely tapes over my brain's off switch for like 16 hours.
So when I went to bed like six hours ago with a mildly recreational dose of dextromethorphan (doubled up NyQuil and plain Robitussin) and a heavy day's fatigue, I was too tired to move and having flights of fancy bordering on hallucinations, but not able to actually sleep.
Sometimes when I talk about a state like being unable to move, hallucinating, and deeply tired, someone pops up to ask "But isn't that what sleep is?" It's a description that can apply to sleep, in a "featherless biped" way...
...but sleep is sleep, and there is no substitute. If you have ever experienced sleep paralysis, you know how significant the difference between sleep and almost but not quite sleep can be.
Anyway. So here I am at almost four in the morning, eating pizza rolls after a semi-restful and mildly frustrating trip.
