Heck, the fact that humanity falsely prided itself on having outgrown nationalism was a RUNNING JOKE.
For all the smack-talk of "primitive superstition", Star Trek routinely defined humanity in terms of our willingness to do things for no clear benefit or cause other than a belief or a gut instinct.
Anyway.

Anybody who thinks Gene Roddenberry was the first or last authority on what did or did not exist in the Star Trek universe knows just enough about Star Trek to get things *really* wrong.
