1/ Here's an overview of the poor quality "research" carried out by the European "Research" Group in recent years, with some comments from me. I looked at nine different "research" papers. Fuller comments in this thread...
2/ The first two ERG papers I looked at included a superficial and inaccurate piece on trading on WTO terms.
3/ Another two ERG papers: including a problematic paper on Cameron's renegotiation (which I gave a mark to 😀👨‍🏫) and a rather simplistic piece for Grayling 🤡
4/ A paper on the withdrawal process with some poor analysis of international law, and proof that these folks wanted to reduce the rights of @the3million 🤬

Overview of the first five pieces: below the standard of any think tank etc research I have seen
5/ Three more ERG research papers. The word of the day is "superficial"
6/ The worst for last. A truly dire analysis of a number of trade law issues.

Lucky these people aren't about to take control of the UK government! Oh...
7/ Final overview. Reader, they wearied me.

1/ As promised, here's an overview of the appointment process and policy platform of the 13th Commission President.

(Not counting the non-canon ones like the pre-merger treaty ECSC and Euratom presidents, or the War President, who filled in between the 9th and 10th presidents)
2/ How are Commission presidents appointed?

Traditionally in the same way as the heads of other international bodies: by agreement of governments, sometimes after lots of grumpy backroom negotiations.

This even applies to the no-dealers' blessed WTO (gasp)
3/ Over time, the *elected* (cough) European Parliament was given a role in appointment of the Commission President, alongside *elected* (cough) governments. First consulted, then given a vote of approval, ie veto. Here's the current legal rule.

Therefore, your writing should be clear and direct. While you may use technical language in your proposal, please avoid jargon and hyperbole.
TWO: Plan writing with your deadline in mind. It's tempting to aim for the next available proposal deadline, but that can lead to rushed and incomplete proposals.

I am so fed up with people claiming to absolutely know what causes #mecfs. People, we don't know for sure yet! We are getting closer to knowing, lots of leads and good research, but arguing that you know and that everyone else is wrong is ridiculous!
I have seen so many people say 'It's Lyme', 'It's mould', 'it's thyroid', 'it's CCI', 'it's enterovirus ONLY', 'it's EBV', 'It's not EBV'... There isn't enough scientific evidence for any of those claims. People seem to have different triggers. We don't know for sure.
If you're not an appropriately qualified scientist, I'm really sorry but you aren't qualified to claim to absolutely know what the cause is. Also, even qualified scientists don't know. You might knot what triggered your own ME, but that doesn't mean everyone else is the same.

Here's a good #TenThings for today: HOW TO KNOW WHEN YOU'RE READY TO QUERY. Because I remember this terrifying purgatory of done/never done, when I was somehow both sure that the first agent I queried would kiss my feet... and positive I'd botch something up, big time.
1. Most importantly, YOU MUST QUERY A COMPLETE BOOK. With fiction, you cannot query a few chapters, an idea, or anything other than a finished book. Agents won't look at incomplete work, and why would they? They need to know if you can go the distance and stick the ending.
2. You only query a WELL-EDITED, SPELLCHECKED, POLISHED TO A SHINE BOOK. Seriously. This is your chance to get the thing you want; why would you half-ass it? My queried books were usually a 13th draft after beta reads and critique partners. Don't be sloppy or lazy. Do the work.
