Good piece showing that Trump is purely a performative "populist" whose administration serves the interests of corporations and the wealthy.

However, the idea suggested here that Steven Bannon or Rick Santorum ever in any way promoted working-class interests is far-fetched. /2
While he was in the White House, Bannon browbeat members of the "freedom caucus" to take away health care for millions and cut taxes on the rich. Not very "populist."/3
And after he left the White House, Bannon has spent his time doing things like speaking to the biggest state-owned Chinese brokerage. /4

And @jmartNYT and @maggieNYT can you explain what "racially driven grabs of media attention" means? In the last week or so, the @nytimes has used euphemisms, such as "fanning racial fires," "stoking race," and "racially loaded chants." Isn't there a better word for this? /5
@jmartNYT @maggieNYT @nytimes Martin and Haberman correctly note that, "Since he became president, Mr. Trump has largely operated as a conventional Republican [on tax cuts, deregulation, judges.] His approach has delighted much of the political right." All I add is none of this should be a surprise./6
@jmartNYT @maggieNYT @nytimes And I love this Newt G. quote which shows the continuity between Trumpism and the Gingrich-era GOP: “His primary focus is to so thoroughly define Democrats as the party of the radical left. I think that matters much more to him than any particular bill.” /7
