If the leakage of Remainy Con votes to LDs accelerates under Boris, the places to keep an eye on are ones like these with lots and lots of Con voting university graduates. Many have large majorities, of course, but as we saw in 2017 and 2015, that can change quickly these days
Some other graduate heavy Con seats where LDs are the local opposition:
St Albans, Winchester, Guildford, Cheltenham, Cheadle, Sutton & Cheam
And some graduate heavy Con-Lab marginals or near-marginals where graduate defections from Con to LD (or strategically from Con to Lab) could shift the local terrain:
Cities of Ldn & Westminster, Wimbledon, Putney, Altringham & Sale West, Croydon S, Watford

Three of the greatest offices of state are now held by children of migrants. Less than a year ago anti-migration think tank migrationwatch was arguing all of them should not be considered members of the “indigenous community”
Sajid Javid, Priti Patel and Dominic Raab are all part of the “impact of migration on the British population” according to migrationwatch, as am I (my mum’s Dutch). However, MigrationWatch generously extends “indigenous” status to all their kids, provided they marry natives.

Fetzer, for example, makes the case that austerity may have increased support for Brexit *all else being equal*. That is *not the same* as claiming "austerity caused Brexit".
If we look at the British Election Study, for example, measures of economic experience (economic insecurity, income, perceptions of national economic situation) are very weak predictors of support for Brexit, while support for Brexit is *lower* among those who oppose austerity

A long read indeed, and yet somehow nowhere in these thousands of words would readers learn that Labour's electorate is (a) majority remain (b) majority middle class, or that education, national identity and view of migration drove Brexit choices not class or economics
The group which constitutes the majority of the Lab electorate and the overwhelming majority of the Labour membership - left-liberal pro-EU graduates - is portrayed as a faction and the reader is misled into believing that the people mobilised by Corbyn were working class Leavers
Its perfectly fine to make the case for Lexit radicalism as an ideology but it is nonsense to pretend, as this article does, that it was the motivating force of Corbyn's or Labour's support. Lexiteers project their own obscure dogma onto an electorate which doesn't share it

Okay! I'm an author (1st novel out in September), I used to work in publishing, I'm a @Soc_of_Authors member.

I've thought long and hard about this problem and I disagree with both the SoA and publishers' positions on it.

Here's why...

Author earnings fall every year (they've never been high), and large publishers' profitabilities are stable or growing (slowly).

But it isn't because publishers are swindling authors. It's because the book industry is in long-term structural decline.
Late last year I did this analysis of a fine report by @canelo_co on the state of literary fiction.
