Mitch McConnell is the real boss of the Republican Party. Trump is only along for the ride.

We need to understand this going into 2020.

If you don't believe me, look at the shutdown.

It didn't end when Trump gave up. He never really gave up. It ended when Mitch gave up.

Also, the only things Trump has been able to pass are the things that Mitch had buy in on.

Tax cuts passed. Judges passed. But Trump's real passion projects have languished. His "merit-based immigration" system is never going to happen. His wall is less than what Obama built.

My point is, nothing much is going to change if we defeat Trump but not Mitch. Our legislative agenda will be dead. Mitch's judges will reverse all the executive power they let Trump have and we won't be able to appoint any of our own.

The Senate. Is. All. That. Matters.

Let me walk you through a not unlikely scenario.

Biden beats Trump. We keep the House and pick up 2 Senate seats. Mitch is still there.

Biden launches health care, climate, and infrastructure initiatives.

Mitch: "LOL no."

Biden: "Okay, well at least I'll undo all of Trump's *executive* actions. I'll bring back DACA, get rid of the global and domestic gag rules, stop issuing Medicaid work requirement waivers to red states..."

Justice Beer Bong: "LOL no, those are permanent now."

Oh, and Ginsburg and Breyer have retired within this time but Mitch holds these seats open.

2022: GOP runs on how Biden has accomplished nothing. Net zero change in Senate seats.

2024: President Tom Cotton. Mitch gets two more Supreme Court picks.

All of this is very possible.

BTW, I used President Biden in this scenario because he's still the frontrunner, but this exact same scenario could also play out with President Harris, President Warren, President Sanders.

Because the president is irrelevant in this scenario. The president is still Mitch.

If you are in a state with a Senate race this year, you have more power than a voter in a presidential swing state.

I'm not kidding.
