Why do all these unions and labor orgs support #MedicareForAll? because if we take healthcare off the bargaining table, we can win higher wages, better pensions, health and safety programs for our workers. And also because we recognize that health care is a HUMAN RIGHT.

I have excellent health insurance.(Tricare- socialistic gov’t run) My husband recently had a surgical procedure and I was billed for nearly $300 from the hospital’s pharmacy, so I called and requested an itemized list of meds since we’ve never had to pay for meds before.
I checked with my insurance company and they claimed to have paid for all the meds related to my husband’s care.

More than 20 days later, I haven’t received the hospital’s list but I went ahead and paid the bill because I didn’t want to pay a late fee. I didn’t flinch over $300.
I understand that an extra few hundred dollars could be catastrophic for some folks.

So here I am, needing to pay money (even when my husband and I are covered by excellent health insurance), not knowing what the hell I paid for.

This argument that “unions broke their neck to get” employer-based insurance” is an OLD argument that isn’t relevant today. Here are a sampling of unions who support @SenSanders & my #MedicareForAll bill: @AFTunion, @SEIU, @MachinistsUnion, @UAW, @NationalNurses, @APWUnational..
...United Mineworkers, ILWU & so many more. These unions understand several things: 1) workers are paying more & more for their employer-insurance b/c for-profit insurance companies are raising premiums hugely for employer healthcare as well. Employers push much of that down.
2) More & more services aren’t being covered even WITH employer covered healthcare. More surprise billings, more challenges to claims by these for-profit insurance companies. Employees see that even with covered healthcare, they end up paying enormous out-of-pocket costs.

When my kids were little, Aetna denied every claim from my Peds Dr under $100 hoping ppl would think it wasn’t covered and pay out of pocket.

EVERY claim. My kids had chronic ear infections & strep throat. I had a huge stack of Explanation of Benefits showing the denials
When I called to find out why the claims were denied, I was told they didn’t know. That only the processors knew. I asked to be transferred to the Claims Processing Department.

I was told that wasn’t possible because they had no phones in the department. 😯 Yes, NO phones.
Having to submit the claims 3 times cost the practice quite a bit. Another was to depress claims. If it cost more to file the claim than the reimbursement then there is no reason to file the claim.
